12L Household Self Enumeration in 11 States/UTs for Census 2027

New Delhi: About 12 lakh households across 11 states and Union Territories have so far done self-enumeration for the Houselisting Operation (HLO) phase of the 2027 census. More than half of these households have availed the facility of self-enumeration in the last four-five daysWith the completion of the 15-day self-enumeration window across the cantonment areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, Karnataka, Odisha, NDMC and Delhi NCR, Mizoram, Sikkim and Lakshadweep on Wednesday, the census field operations, including house-to-house visits by enumerators from these eight states, will begin on Thursday.The field operation will last for a month – till 15th May. As the 12 lakh households enumerated so far constitute only a minuscule percent of the total population of the eight states, enumerator visits will be crucial to capture complete and accurate information on housing conditions and household amenities. The HLO phase forms an essential basis for evidence-based planning and formulation of welfare and development programmes, a Home Ministry spokesperson said.The self-counting window is open till April 19 in Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and till April 24 in Uttarakhand. It will begin on Monday in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal, Haryana, Chandigarh, MP and Chhattisgarh and on Friday in Bihar.
