Pakistan has taken a big step in its navy. It has inducted its first Hangar-class submarine into the Navy. This submarine has been built by China and it was inaugurated in China’s port city Sanya.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari himself was present in this ceremony. Under an agreement between Pakistan and China, Pakistan is to get a total of 8 such submarines. This news also has a big meaning for India because this submarine has been named after the submarine which sank the Indian warship in the 1971 war.

Pakistani Navy Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf said that the world’s important sea routes are under increasing threat which could harm trade and energy supplies. He said that these submarines will help in maintaining stability in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.
