Yami Gautam had read the Quran for the film Haq: Director said – it took the team one and a half years to understand Islamic law.
Haq actress Yami Gautam read the Quran for about four months to prepare for her character and maintain the authenticity of the film. The film’s director Supan S Verma told this in an interview given to BBC Asian Network. Supan S Verma said that during the research of the film, it took about one and a half years for the team to understand Islamic law. He told that the references and dialogues of Quran have been presented realistically in the film. Therefore, in the end, special importance was given to the word ‘Iqra’. He said that an attempt has been made in the film to show issues like triple talaq and dower in the right context. Apart from Yami Gautam, Emraan Hashmi also played an important role in the film. The film also featured actors like Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain and Aseem Hattangadi. The story of the film was based on issues like gender equality, justice and personal dignity. In the story, Shazia (Yami Gautam) approaches the court after her husband (Emraan Hashmi) marries a second time and refuses to pay her maintenance. Made in collaboration with Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the film was released in theaters in November 2025. After this it was released on OTT platform Netflix on 2 January 2026. Alia became a fan of Yami after watching the film Haq. The film was praised by celebs like Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani and Sanjay Kapoor. Alia shared a note on her Instagram story and described herself as Yami’s fan. The actress had written, “Queen Yami Gautam, you are amazing in ‘Haq’. Truthfulness, heart and class are evident in your acting. This is one of my favorite female performances till date. As I said on the phone too, I am your fan and eagerly await your upcoming work.” Yami Gautam also gave her reaction on this post of Alia. While re-sharing Alia’s story, she wrote that it is very special to receive such praise from such a wonderful actress and a good person.
