Over 93,000 vacancies in CAPFs, Assam Rifles: MHA tells Rajya Sabha | India News
New Delhi: Over 93,000 posts across the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Assam Rifles, which is about 8.7% of their combined sanctioned strength, remained vacant till January 1, 2026, the Home Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.28,342 (17.7%) posts are vacant in CISF, 27,400 (9%) in CRPF, 14,531 (5.6%) in BSF, 12,333 (13.2%) in ITBP, 6,784 (7.2%) in SSM and 36% in SSF (RISF) Junior Home Minister. Nityananda Rai said this in a written reply to a question. Responding to a separate query regarding CAPF, Rai told RS on Wednesday that 749 CAPF personnel committed suicide, 9,532 resigned and 24 were killed in fratricide incidents between 2021 and 2025. Also, 46,529 CAPF personnel took voluntary retirement during the same five-year period, though the annual number declined from a high of 11,256 in 2022 to 4,291 in 2025.Rai said, CAPF and Assam Rifles have been directed to fill vacancies in non-general duty cadre within a specified period. An MoU has also been signed with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for annual recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty) within a specified period, he added.Cutoff marks are also lowered for shortlisting candidates for Constable/General Duty if necessary.
