The Kerala High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the producers of the film ‘The Kerala Story 2’. This notice was issued after hearing the petition, in which there was a demand to cancel the censor certificate given to the film in question. The petition was filed by Srideva Namboothiri, a resident of Chittariparamba in Kannur district. He said that the entire state was wrongly maligned and portrayed in a stereotypical manner in the film without any concrete evidence. The petition said, “It is clear from watching the trailer of the film that the story is based on women from three different states and most of the events take place in North India. Despite this, the title and scenes of the film try to present Kerala in a negative light in a wrong way. The film tries to show Kerala and Keralites as separate from the rest of the country, whereas Keralites contribute significantly to the country’s economy by working in India and abroad and provide employment and accommodation to people from other states. Also give.” The petition further said, “The name of the film is a deliberate attempt by the writer or director to present as reality most of the projected fears. The petitioners are not against freedom of expression, but it is not appropriate to falsely associate any projected fear with the entire state of Kerala.” The next hearing is fixed for February 24. Let us tell you that taking cognizance of the petition, the High Court directed the Censor Board to file a reply. The court has also asked the film’s producer Sunshine Pictures to present its stand. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 24. Recently the trailer of ‘The Kerala Story 2’ was released, in which it is shown that Hindu women are allegedly trapped in the name of love. The story of the film has been written by Amarnath Jha and Vipul Amritlal Shah, while the film has been directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly opposed the sequel of ‘The Kerala Story’, calling it another attempt to incite communal disharmony in the state.
