Starcast- Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandes

Director- Ahmed Khan

Rating- 3.5 stars

Duration- 2 hours 44 minutes The purpose of ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is only to entertain and the film makes this clear from the very beginning, here logic is on leave and laughter is on duty. This comedy, adorned with about three dozen actors, brings a new character, comedy and chaos every few minutes. The story does go away from logic at times, but if you keep logic aside for a while (or swallow it with popcorn), then Akshay Kumar’s comic timing, his chemistry with Raveena Tandon and the fun of the rest of the cast keep you laughing continuously.

How is the story of the film?

The story starts with Sinha (Zakir Hussain), a big businessman, who learns that after the change of government, his black money is going to come under the radar of government agencies. His personal secretary Dubey (Johnny Lever) advises him to invest all the money in making a flop film, as black money can be laundered there. The shooting of the film then begins with two failed directors Dev and Das (Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal), flop actor Rajeev (Akshay Kumar), a blind cinematographer (Shreyas Talpade) and a strange cast.

Meanwhile, Sinha’s house is raided and his entire illegal property is confiscated. Now the last hope left for him is this film. He orders Dubey to complete the film in a single day without any additional budget, meaning ‘Jugaad’ is the real hero. Under this compulsion, the entire team reaches Azadganj village near the border.

Here the villagers consider them to be the Indian Army because they are troubled by the atrocities of terrorist leader Jatara. After this the film moves from comedy to light emotional turn. Some scenes in the second part also remind of the comic ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Ultimately, how this team saves the villagers from the terror of Jatara, is the climax of the film, where logic is left behind a bit, but one can definitely laugh with joy.

How is the acting of the actors?

Akshay Kumar has returned in his old comic avatar and he is the biggest strength of the entire film. The special thing is that many times in the dialogues he has made fun of his own image and those scenes bring maximum laughter, as if he himself knows that here timing and not logic will work.

Raveena Tandon’s screen time may be less, but whenever she comes on screen, she attracts complete attention. Seeing Akshay and Raveena together after a long time becomes the most memorable part of the film. Sunil Shetty and Arshad Warsi are very much stuck in their old image. Sunil Shetty again gives fun in the style of ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’. Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Farida Jalal and Kiran Kumar make us laugh a lot even in their small roles. Jackie Shroff leaves an impact as the villain. Disha Patani and Jacqueline Fernandes add glamor to the film.

How is the direction and technical side?

The idea of late Neeraj Vohra’s story is interesting. The biggest success of director Ahmed Khan is that he has handled such a huge cast in a balanced manner and has given almost every artist a chance to shine. The film’s dialogues provide constant laughs and many comic punches remain memorable for a long time.

However, some scenes in the first part seem longer than necessary, where it seems as if the editing had probably gone on a holiday. Editing of some parts in the second part could have been better. Had the film been a little more tight, the entertainment level could have been higher. The cinematography, action and locations are good as per the story.

How is the music of the film? The music of the film goes along with the story, but there is no song that remains remembered long after leaving the theatre. The background music definitely strengthens the comedy atmosphere.

Final Verdict- Watch the movie or not?

‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is not a film in which you have to search for the logic of every scene, because if you do, you will probably miss the laugh. It is made for those viewers who want to laugh out loud while sitting with family or friends. Akshay Kumar’s old comic style, his great chemistry with Raveena Tandon and actors like Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Farida Jalal together make the film entertaining.
