Kamal Haasan gifted a book related to Mahatma Gandhi to Tamil Nadu CM Vijay.
Actor and leader Kamal Haasan met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Saturday. He put forward six demands related to Tamil film industry to Vijay.
Haasan demanded the state government to launch an official OTT platform for Tamil films and documentaries. He said that this will give the audience an opportunity to watch content at a lower cost.
While sharing the photo of his meeting with CM Vijay on social media, Haasan wrote that today he personally met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Bhai Vijay and wished him all the best.

Many challenges in Tamil film industry
Hassan Wrote in the post that Chief Minister Vijay shared many dreams related to the development of Tamil Nadu with great enthusiasm. He felt proud by the politeness and affection shown during the meeting. The Tamil film industry is currently facing many challenges and needs the cooperation and support of the Tamil Nadu government. He wrote in the end, May goodness always prevail.
Haasan has 6 demands from CM Vijay…
1. Government Tamil OTT platform launched- Demanded the state government to start a government OTT platform for Tamil films and documentaries. He said that this will give the audience an opportunity to watch content at a lower cost.
2. 4% entertainment tax should be removed- The cost of making a film, releasing it and running a theater has increased. Therefore 4% entertainment tax should be removed.
3. Anti-piracy team should be formed- To stop piracy, it was suggested to create a special anti-piracy team in the Cyber Crime Department of Tamil Nadu Police. He said that piracy causes huge losses to artists, technicians and producers.
4. 5 shows should be allowed daily in the theatre- He demanded permission to run 5 shows daily for all films in theaters across the state.
5. There should be a gap of 8 weeks before OTT release- A gap of at least eight weeks should be made mandatory before the OTT release of films to retain theater owners and distributors.
6. Film Production Incentive Scheme should be started- Also appealed to the state government to start a film production incentive scheme. With this, Tamil Nadu will again become the major film production center of the country.
2019: Haasan’s party got 4% votes in the Lok Sabha elections.
Kamal Haasan is a Rajya Sabha MP. His political party Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM) is a regional party in Tamil Nadu. He started it on 21 February 2018 in Madurai. The party was started keeping issues like fight against corruption, rural development and environmental protection at the center.

Kamal Haasan was sworn in as Rajya Sabha MP on 25 July 2025.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his party got about 4 percent votes. He then contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where he lost the Coimbatore South seat to BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan in a close contest.
Kamal Haasan’s party did not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party extended its support to the then ruling DMK and called it the need of the hour. He was sent to Rajya Sabha in 2025 with the support of DMK.
