E30 पेट्रोल की तैयारी, हाई इथेनॉल फ्यूल पर एक्साइज ड्यूटी खत्म! समझिए सरकार का प्लान – E30 Petrol Higher Ethanol Fuel Excise Duty slashes impact on vehicle mileage economy auaw

The petrol pump will remain the same, the vehicles will also remain the same, but the fuel going into the tank will gradually change. The government has taken a decision that will change the entire ‘fuel game’ of the country in the coming years. The discussion about E20 was not yet completely over in the country when the government cleared the way for high ethanol petrol like E22, E25, E27 and E30. By removing the excise duty on these fuels, a clear indication has been given that soon fuel with more ethanol will be available in the country. Now the question is, what effect will this change have on your car, your pocket and the country’s economy?

Central government increased the quantity of petrol ethanol A big step has been taken to promote integration. According to the new notification, excise duty will no longer be imposed on ethanol blended petrol from 22 percent to 30 percent. Fuel blends like E22, E25, E27 and E30 will benefit from this. This is the first time that ethanol blended fuel above E20 has received such an exemption. This decision has come at a time when the discussion about import of ethanol, flex fuel and crude oil in India is in full swing.

Experts believe that this is not just a tax exemption, but a part of the government’s long strategy. For the last several years, the government has been focusing on ethanol blending. Last year itself, the government had announced to complete the E20 target ahead of time i.e. in advance. Now the dose of ethanol in petrol is to be increased, due to which fuel ranging from E22 to E30 will be available in the market.

Recently, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had issued new quality standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol. Ethanol quantity, octane rating, sulfur limit, testing process and safety standards have been clarified in these rules implemented under IS 19850:2026. These standards have become effective from 15 May 2026. If we look at the new standards of BIS and the excise duty exemption, then it seems that preparations are being made to take high ethanol petrol to a bigger level.

Journey of ethanol blending in India

Ethanol blending into petrol in India has progressed rapidly in the last few years. According to Autopandit, the blending level in the ethanol supply year (ESY) 2021-22 was around 10.00 percent. After this it increased to 12.06 percent in 2022-23. In the year 2023-24 it reached 14.60 percent, while in 2024-25 it was recorded at 17.98 percent till 28 February 2025.

After this, the country achieved 19 percent blending level during 2024-25 and the E20 target supply was completed in the middle of the year. Now 20 percent ethanol blending has been implemented compulsorily across the country in 2025-26. More than 515 crore liters of ethanol has been supplied by April 2026, which is considered a major achievement of India’s Biofuel Mission.

Questions were raised regarding E20

However, this journey of ethanol blending was not completely smooth. During this period, controversies and complaints continued to be received. Many vehicle owners talked about the harm caused by this fuel on different social media platforms. Many people said that the performance of their vehicles has deteriorated after using E20 fuel. Mileage has decreased, engine and many internal components of the vehicle have become prematurely damaged. Later this matter also reached the court. But in September 2025, the Supreme Court had rejected the petition filed against E20 petrol.

What will be the effect on you?

At present, no major changes will be immediately visible to the common people at petrol pumps. But in the coming time, high ethanol fuels like E22, E25, E27 and E30 can be seen more in the market. A few days ago, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had inaugurated the first E85 fuel station in the country’s capital at the Indian Oil Outlet on Pusa Road, Delhi.

After this, questions started arising in people’s minds that what will happen to E20 vehicles now. In response to which the Union Minister said that launching E85 fuel does not mean that E20 fuel will be discontinued. Vehicles with E20 fuel are equally useful and this petrol will continue to be available. At present, there is no need to worry about this.

But it is also important to know that this new flex fuel is only for E85 compliant vehicles. Whose number is very limited. During this fuse launch, Hero MotoCorp introduced its two flex fuel bikes (Hero Splendor and Hero HF Deluxe). Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki has also unveiled the flex fuel version of its famous family car WagonR. At present, all these vehicles are not yet available for sale. Hero MotoCorp will launch its bikes in different parts of the country in a phased manner from July.

Increasing concern due to ethanol

There is no doubt about how active the government is in increasing the ethanol dosage in petrol. But due to this the concern of common people is also increasing. A recent survey by LocalCircles shows that 43 percent of people planning to buy a car are worried about E20 petrol and the possibility of switching to E30 fuel in the future. Due to this fuel change, these users may postpone or reconsider their car purchase plans for next year. In this study, opinions were taken from more than 28,000 potential buyers in 311 districts across the country.
