Coimbatore: Operation Sindoor The defense minister is a reflection of Lord Shiva’s Rudra-like determination Rajnath Singh Sunday said, using the example to emphasize that a society governed by fear cannot be safe and only a fearless people can build a strong nation.Addressing the 32nd Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Centre, Singh framed fearlessness as a spiritual force rather than a product of brute force. “True security,” he said, “comes from inner self-confidence and national consciousness, not from material prowess alone.”
Invoking Lord Shiva as a symbol of protection and destruction, Singh drew a parallel with the armed forces, which he described as combining patience and compassion with decisive power. He pointed to operations like Sindur as a moment when humanitarian aid and resilience become essential during crises as an expression of security. The discipline and determination of soldiers is rooted in India’s cultural foundation and inspiration from Lord Shiva, he added.Singh warns that modern life’s fixation on material gain often destroys inner well-being. Spirituality helps restore balance and unlock human potential, allowing personal growth to translate into service to society and the nation, he said.He said India’s strength lies in its cultural unity and a spiritual ethos that the central government has tried to project globally. Yoga is an invaluable Indian offering that has now been embraced globally in new forms, he added.Terming space missions like Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Aditya-L1 as modern expressions of ancient scientific spirit, the minister said culture and science, often considered separate, complement each other in India.Singh said, service to humanity is service to Lord Shiva. He linked that concept to the Centre’s welfare initiatives across education, healthcare and quality of life over the past decade, citing cultural projects such as the Ujjain Mahakal, the Kashi Vishwanath and Somnath corridors, and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru describes Mahashivratri as a night to be one’s best, warning that failure to act on one’s potential diminishes it.
