New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Kiren Rijiju On Thursday released a video clip which he claimed was recorded by a Congress MP in Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birler’s chamber.Reiterating earlier allegations, Rijiju accused Congress MPs of entering the Speaker’s chamber, abusing him and using foul language.“This is an illegal video clip taken by a Congress MP when 20-25 Congress MPs entered the chamber of the Hon’ble Speaker, abused him and threatened the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Our party believes in debate and discussion and never encourages physical threats to MPs,” Rijiju said in a post on X.This comment comes a day after Rijiju made comments a day earlier, when he alleged that a group of Congress MPs entered the Speaker’s chamber and behaved unruly.“At least 20-25 Congress MPs entered the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chamber and abused him. I was there too. The Speaker is a very soft person, otherwise strict action would have been taken. Including senior Congress leaders. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal were also present inside, and they were encouraging them to fight,” Rijiju told reporters.“They went to the Speaker’s chamber and abused him, said bad things. Earlier this week, opposition parties submitted a notice seeking the removal of Om Birla as Lok Sabha speaker, accusing him of acting in a “clearly partisan” manner. Opposition leaders also alleged that Birla made “false claims” against the Congress MP after he mentioned some “unexpected actions” in the Lok Sabha and requested the Prime Minister. Rijiju questioned the conduct and accused the opposition of disrupting parliamentary proceedings without precedent.According to the minister, the BJP and NDA MPs were “very angry” at the behavior of the Congress members but chose to maintain restraint.Parliament has faced several hurdles since February 2 when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was barred by the chairman from quoting an article based on excerpts from the “unpublished memoirs” of former army chief MM Naravane.On 4 February, the situation escalated when the Prime Minister was unable to respond to the motion of thanks amid opposition protests. The motion was passed on February 5 without the usual Prime Ministerial response. The Speaker read out the motion, which was approved by a voice vote amid continued chants from opposition MPs.
