No security concern for Indian diplomats or their kin: Bangladesh | India News
Dhaka: Days after India advised the return of family members of Indian diplomats and officials amid threats of violence against Indian installations in Bangladesh, Dhaka on Wednesday dismissed New Delhi’s concerns, saying it was their “choice” and “not our concern”. “If they want to take their families back, it is not our concern. There is no concern about security. I don’t understand what signal is being sent. It is their decision.”The advisory was issued after massive anti-India protests last week at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and Assistant High Commissions in other cities — angry protests came precariously close to diplomatic facilities in Chittagong — as well as a series of attacks, including killings, on minority Hindus since the hardline Islamist leader’s death, including 8 days after India-Baitar Sharif and 8 days after Dedar Sharif.“There is no situation in the country that would compel diplomats to send their family members back home or where officials or their family members are in danger,” Touhid said, adding that he saw “no justification for non-family postings of Indian diplomats”. He told reporters that the Bangladesh government had not been informed of any security concerns regarding the family members of Indian diplomats. While the Bangladesh High Commission and its missions in New Delhi have suspended visa processing, the Indian High Commission and its missions in Dhaka remain open.
