These days, director Imtiaz Ali, who is in the news with the film Main Vashpar Aaunga, has given a strong statement on the practice of burqa and purdah, after which a debate has erupted on social media. Recently in the podcast Unfiltered with Samdish, while talking on culture and society, Imtiaz Ali said, ‘I dislike it very much when people say that I am comfortable in burqa, I am comfortable in purdah. If you feel like this then it is a sign of a backward society. It is not right when you say that I am comfortable. He further said, ‘This means that so much victimization has happened in your mind. I don’t know how to say this. I don’t bother people around about this or go to anyone’s house and say this. This is what I believe in. If someone is doing it then it is fine. Finally Imtiaz Ali said, ‘These days I am wondering where the moderate (balanced thinking) people are. Who will you vote for, where you are, well, you can be anywhere. Nowadays everyone is extreme. If someone’s views don’t match then we can’t hate him. Debate broke out on Imtiaz Ali’s statement on burqa. After this statement of Imtiaz Ali came to light, he is being heavily criticized on social media. Some social media users have raised the question that Imtiaz Ali himself comes from a society where burqa is prevalent. While some are calling him a hypocrite. One user has written, ‘Imtiaz Ali described the practice of burqa/purdah as weak, backward thinking and problematic. But this sermon is defending it by saying that if a community has accepted it as normal, then how can we question it? Imtiaz himself comes from the same community. Wow. How hypocritical. One user wrote, “The biggest enemies of Muslims are these liberal people, because they avoid criticizing their wrongdoings or shortcomings.” Imtiaz’s film was called anti-national. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film ‘Main Vapaas Aaunga’ has been released in theaters on June 12. This film is based on an incomplete love story of the partition of India-Pakistan, which many people are calling anti-national. The film’s music composer AR Rahman also reacted laughingly to this. This film starring Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh and Naseeruddin Shah has collected Rs 14 crore in the first week of its release. The film received praise from Pakistan. Pakistani filmmaker Omar Nasir Ali has praised Imtiaz Ali’s film Main Wapsar Aaunga, calling it a very beautiful and deeply emotional film.
