The extreme heat and heat waves are continuously increasing in UP. The temperature has reached around 45 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, if electricity remains missing in a village not just for one or two hours but for a whole month, then how difficult people’s life can become can be estimated by looking at the condition of a village in Banda district. Here the patience of the villagers suffering from electricity crisis finally ran out and dozens of people went straight to the District Magistrate’s office with their complaint. The villagers allege that there is a complete standstill in the electricity supply in the village for the last one month. Complaints and applications were continuously given to the departmental officers, but every time only assurance was received. Now the DM has ordered an investigation.
More than 350 houses in darkness, heat increased the difficulty
Case To tie He is from Malehara Niwada village of Naraini tehsil of the district. According to the villagers, more than 350 families live in the village. Due to disruption in power supply for the last one month, life in the entire village has been affected. The people of the village say that it has become difficult to live in their homes due to the strong sunlight during the day and humid heat at night. Fans are switched off, coolers have become showpieces and those who had bought ACs by taking loan are also lying idle. The situation is such that people are forced to spend time awake on rooftops and courtyards throughout the night. Villagers say that the biggest impact of lack of electricity is on children and the elderly. Small children are facing problems due to heat and mosquitoes, while the health of the elderly is continuously deteriorating. There are sick people in many houses who are facing the most difficulties in this scorching heat.
When electricity went out, water also disappeared.
The power crisis has not only taken away lights and fans but has also created a problem of drinking water. Many people in the village arrange water through motor and pump. Water supply has been affected due to lack of electricity. Women are forced to fetch water from far away places. Villagers say that the need for water increases during the summer season, but due to lack of electricity the water crisis has become more serious. Everyday life is being badly affected by this.
Burnt wire and blown transformer became the cause of trouble
Villagers told that 10 to 15 meters of electric wires installed in the village were burnt and damaged. Apart from this, the transformer also blew up due to overloading. After this the power supply was stopped. People allege that the electricity department was informed several times to rectify the technical fault, but even after a month the problem was not resolved. Every time the officials kept giving assurance of getting the repairs done soon, but no work was done at the ground level. Villagers say that the responsible officers of the department kept giving only assurances while sitting in rooms with air conditioners, while the people of the village continued to suffer in the scorching heat.
When complaint was not heard, villagers reached DM office
Angered by the continuous neglect, the villagers finally approached the District Magistrate’s office. Dozens of villagers arrived and presented their problems to the District Magistrate and demanded restoration of electricity as soon as possible. Villagers told that the village has been immersed in darkness for a month. Applications were given to the electricity department several times, but every time they were only asked to wait. The situation has become so bad that people’s patience ran out and they had to reach out to higher officials of the administration.
DM took cognizance, reprimanded the officers
After listening to the complaint of the villagers, District Magistrate Amit Aseri took the matter seriously. He immediately called the concerned electricity officer and expressed his displeasure and gave instructions to repair the electricity system as soon as possible. The DM also raised the question as to how the electricity supply in a village remained cut off for such a long period and why the responsible officials did not solve the problem in time. Orders have also been given to investigate this matter. The District Magistrate has instructed the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) to investigate the entire incident and fix responsibility. The administration says that if negligence is found at any level, action can be taken against the concerned officials.
ADM said – solution will come soon
Additional District Magistrate Mayaram said that taking the matter seriously, a report has been sought from the Executive Engineer. The technical problem is being assessed and efforts will be made to restore power supply soon. He assured that the problems of the villagers will be resolved soon so that people can get relief.
Questions are also being raised on CM’s instructions
It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had held a meeting with the officials and given instructions for quick disposal of complaints related to electricity and water. The Chief Minister had clearly said that negligence in such matters related to the general public will not be tolerated. Despite this, the issue of interruption in power supply for a month in Malehara Nivada village of Banda is raising many questions. Villagers say that if action had been taken on their complaints in time, they would not have had to come to the DM office. At present the administration has intervened in the matter. Now the people of the village hope that the families who have been suffering from darkness and heat for a month will get relief soon and the accountability of the responsible officials will also be fixed.
