Military exercise 'Pragati' of 12 countries begins in Meghalaya

New Delhi: Multilateral military exercise Pragati 2026 involving personnel from 12 friendly countries kicked off at Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya on Wednesday.Teams from Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are traditionally welcomed. Indian Army.Pragati — the regional military partnership for growth and transformation in the Indian Ocean region — provides a common platform for the exercise participants to engage in professional exchanges, learn from each other’s experiences and build military-to-military relationships.The two-week exercise will focus on anti-terrorist operations in semi-hill and jungle areas. The training program will include joint planning exercises, tactical-level exercises and integrated operations designed to improve the adaptability, endurance and tactical skills of participating soldiers.In his address at an event, Indian Army’s Additional Director General of Infantry Major General Sunil Sheoran welcomed all the contingents and highlighted the importance of collective participation in tackling contemporary security challenges. He stressed that the strengths and perspectives brought by each nation would contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the exercise’s collective objectives.As part of the exercise, Indian technology and defense companies will showcase indigenous equipment and innovations under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and highlighting India’s growing capabilities in defense manufacturing, innovation and self-reliance.
