CBI arrests two more accused in Maharashtra; tally rises to 7
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two more accused persons for alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and conducted searches at 14 locations across the country in the last 24 hours.The two arrested accused are Dhananjay Lokhanda of Ahiliyanagar, Maharashtra and Manisha Waghmare of Pune, Maharashtra. The total number of arrests in this case is seven.The CBI had registered a case on May 12 based on a written complaint by the higher education department of the education ministry regarding alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination on May 3 and paper leakage.The FIR was registered for criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft and destruction of evidence under the Indian Penal Code, offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act and offenses under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Misappropriation) Act, 2024.So far, the CBI has arrested seven accused in the case – three from Jaipur, one from Gurugram, one from Nashik and the last two from Pune and Ahilyanagar. Several other suspects are currently being questioned.The agency conducted searches at multiple locations across the country. Several incriminating materials and electronic devices including mobile phones were seized during the search and arrest.The CBI is coordinating with the Rajasthan Special Operations Group, which conducted the initial investigation in the case, and is following all leads through extensive technical and forensic analysis.
NTA has canceled the exam, will re-exam
