New Delhi: Himanta Biswa Sharma took oath on Tuesday Chief Minister of Assam For the second consecutive term, the BJP-led NDA strengthened its hold in the northeastern state after a landslide victory in the assembly elections.At the age of 57, Sarma became the first non-Congress leader in Assam to return as chief minister for a second consecutive term.Laxman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma and four other MLAs at a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary College grounds in Khanapara, Guwahati.The four MLAs who took oath along with Sarma were BJP leaders Ajanta Neog and Rameshwar Teli, AGP’s Atul Bora and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Charan Boro. Neog, Bora and Boro were part of Sarma’s previous cabinet, while Teli has returned to state politics after serving as a Union minister.
Prime Minister Modi, top NDA leaders will attend the event
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Monday night ahead of the swearing-in ceremony and attended the event along with several senior BJP and NDA leaders.Sarma and other BJP leaders welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President Nitin Naveen were among the senior leaders present.Several Union Ministers including Sarbananda Sonowal, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chirag Paswan were also present on the occasion.Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, top industrialists, dignitaries and party workers attended the event. Officials said that more than one lakh people attended the event. The BJP-led NDA bagged a huge mandate in the Assam assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member house. BJP alone won 82 seats, while alliance partners AGP and BPF won 10 seats each.This will be the third consecutive NDA government in Assam since the alliance first came to power in 2016 under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal.
