The video of the comment sparked political controversy

An alleged video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows Lodhi using abusive language against the Prime Minister while responding to questions on Prime Minister Modi’s recent appeal urging people to reduce fuel consumption and limit gold and other imports.According to PTI, the Hamirpur-Mahobar MP used an expletive against Prime Minister Modi and called him a “desh-vrodhi (anti-national)” prime minister. He also questioned the Prime Minister’s foreign visit and said that the country has never seen such a leader before.Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum, Lodhi warned that the government would “face consequences” if the protesters’ demands were not met.

BJP leaders condemned the comments

The remark drew a sharp reaction from BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who called the remark an “insult” to democratic values.“The unparliamentary remarks made by an MP against Prime Minister Narendra Modi are not only offensive and unforgivable, but also a serious blow to the democratic order,” Adityanath said in a post on X.He added that Lodhi’s behavior reflected “bad political culture, ideological bankruptcy and disrespect for the dignity of public life”.The chief minister also said that the comment insulted the order and faith of 145 crore Indians and the country’s democratic status.

Seeking action from BJP Akhilesh Yadav

Union minister and Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary also criticized the Samajwadi Party MP and demanded action against him.“The kind of dirty and indecent language used by Ajendra Singh Lodhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is highly condemnable and proves that SP is a hooligan and a group of people who use indecent language,” Chowdhury said, as quoted by PTI.He urged SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to expel Lodhi from the party and said the leadership’s silence would be seen as tacit approval of the remarks.Several BJP leaders, including spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla and MLA Shalav Mani Tripathi, also shared the video online and accused the Samajwadi Party of encouraging abusive political language.During the same conversation with reporters, Lodhi also said that the Samajwadi Party would oppose the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and claimed that other Bharat Bloc parties would push for elections through ballot papers.
