Nilesh Mishra, who has started a new innings as a journalist, story writer, lyricist and now an actor, is in the news these days for the film ‘Kood’. It has been released on his YouTube channel. He spoke openly on this… Was acting always a part of your dreams? To be honest, I never saw myself as an actor. Wrote a play during college days. A friend was supposed to play the lead role in it, but he refused at the last moment. Then I was forced to come on stage myself. After that life moved forward into radio, writing and stories. Then once Vishal Bhardwaj said in a meeting that 60 percent of acting is voice. Now that I have come in front of the camera through ‘Jump’, it feels like I am still in the kindergarten of acting. What are your thoughts on the subject of the film? The right to ‘die of one’s own free will’ is a very complex and philosophical debate. When a person is in a relationship, the other person invests part of his feelings and life in it. I believe that we should seek the life of our own choice instead of the death of our own choice. You had left the popular web series like ‘Maharani’. Why did you do this? When the proposal for ‘Maharani’ series came, I went from Lucknow to Mumbai, but I had one condition that I would not abuse on screen. On the very first day of the workshop, I realized that the demand for OTT content was beyond my ‘Lakshman Rekha’, so I requested Mukesh Chhabra to free me the same evening. Today, abusive and aggressive language is also called ‘realism’? My upbringing, sensibilities and language are different. I believe that politeness is equally effective. The power of communication lies not only in abuses but also in emotions. If I do something against my mind, it will no longer be an honest act. What is the secret of your success? My biggest strength is ‘not knowing anything in advance’. When I started telling stories on the radio, I didn’t know how it was done. When I started ‘Gaon Connection’, I had no knowledge of business. This was not a business for me, but a ‘mission’. I just knew that the voice of the villages had to be given a platform. I invested all my savings, my house, everything in it. When I started doing interviews in front of the camera, I had no knowledge of camera angles. Since I didn’t know how to do it, I did it my own way. It is this ignorance that gives me the freedom to do new experiments. My life is a beautiful journey, which I am living on my own terms and with simplicity. What is the greatest legacy of life for you? How do people remember you? When I look back, I have minimal regrets. People should remember me as an honest person and a sensitive creator. Whether you get fame or not, your authenticity, decency and honesty ultimately become your real legacy.
