‘Own work like Mughal rulers’: BJP snaps at Kejriwal after AAP chief likens PM Modi to Aurangzeb | India News
New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Arvind Kejriwal after Union minister Rabneet Singh Bittu called Kejriwal “Ahmed Shah Abdali” after AAP chief compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, leading to Enforcement Directorate (ED) action against Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora.A political war of words erupted after the ED conducted fresh inquiries against Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora and others associated with him as part of a money-laundering probe. Later Arora was arrested by the agency.
Reacting to Kejriwal’s comments, Bittu alleged that the AAP leadership remembers the Mughal rulers because “their own deeds are like theirs”.“Punjab has again seen Ahmad Shah Abdali and Ahmad Shah Abdali is Kejriwal,” Bittu told reporters, while accusing the AAP government in Punjab of “looting and looting”.
Kejriwal compared PM Modi with Aurangzeb
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had alleged that the BJP was using central agencies to pressure opposition leaders to join the saffron party. While addressing a press conference in Delhi, the former chief minister compared PM Modi to Aurangzeb and accused him of targeting Punjab through the ED drive.“Punjab is the land of gurus. Hundreds of years ago, Aurangzeb took control of many parts of the country through crime and oppression. Modi too has taken control of many parts of the country fraudulently,” Kejriwal said.He also alleged that Punjabis were being “mistreated” and claimed that the raids against Arora were politically motivated as the minister had refused to join the BJP.The AAP national convener also claimed that agencies like ED and CBI are no longer functioning independently.“In the Modi regime, they are working to intimidate, intimidate and force opposition leaders to break away and join the BJP. The operation against Arora is a step in the same direction,” Kejriwal said.“Either join BJP or get arrested,” Kejriwal alleged, referring to the ED’s move.
BJP says AAP is ‘upset’ over corruption cases
BJP leaders rejected Kejriwal’s allegations and said the ED’s action was linked to allegations of corruption and not political vendetta.Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed Kejriwal was nervous because he knew the probe could eventually reach him.“Arvind Kejriwal himself seems to be the mastermind behind this whole extortion conspiracy,” Sachdeva alleged, as reported by news agency PTI.BJP spokesperson RP Singh said it is Kejriwal, and not PM Modi, who is behaving “like Aurangzeb” in Punjab.“The crackdown should be seen not against AAP but against the corrupt,” Singh said, accusing the Punjab government of being mired in corruption.Punjab BJP chief Sunil Zakhar also defended the ED drive, saying the move was related to graft and corruption.
Political tension is high in Punjab
The ED inquiries came amid growing political unrest in Punjab and after several AAP Rajya Sabha MPs recently joined the BJP.Kejriwal alleged that former AAP MP Ashok Mittal joined the BJP after facing ED raids and claimed that similar pressure was being put on Arora.Meanwhile, former AAP ally and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha accused the AAP government of betraying Punjab and pushing the state to financial ruin, according to PTI.He alleged that documents that came out after the ED’s action indicated “round-tripping” of funds through entities in the UAE, Canada and Australia.
