KOLKATA: For the first time, the Writers’ Building in Kolkata and other government offices in Bengal will turn orange after Saturday evening to mark the inauguration day of the BJP government.The lighting test was held on Friday evening.Sources said the Greco-Roman facade of the Ritors, which will once again serve as the State Secretariat after restoration and renovations are completed, will be decorated with thousands of orange rice bulbs. Several other buildings including the Assembly House, Kolkata Collectorate and Akashvani Bhavan will similarly be decorated in orange from around 5.30 pm.Many state government buildings got a blue-and-white makeover after Mamata Banerjee took office in 2011, but Reuters, the state secretariat till 2013 and a few traditional buildings like the Kolkata Collectorate retained the red and off-white shade.Inside the Writers’ Building, where new CM Subvendu Adhikari is expected to step in in the afternoon after taking oath at the Brigade Parade Ground and traveling to the Raj Bhavan to complete the ceremony, work is on at breakneck speed to complete a temporary Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for the symbolic visit. Adhikari will then work from the chief minister’s office to office in the assembly before returning to the writers after the work is done.
