In 2026, the candidates include Suman Kanjilal of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Paritosh Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mrinmoy Sarkar (Papan) of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by BJP’s Suman Kanjilal, who defeated TMC’s Saurabh Chakraborty by a margin of about 16,007 votes, securing a total of 1,07,000 votes. The results marked a clear victory in a constituency that previously saw diverse party representation.The constituency includes Alipurduar municipality, railway junction and several village panchayats, located close to the Bhutan border, with a mix of urban and rural populations engaged in trade, service, agriculture and informal economic activities. Key issues include calls for infrastructure improvements, improved roads, reliable public transport, improved drainage and stable power supply. Residents stress the need for enhanced health care services and quality educational facilities, with many traveling outside the constituency for specialized care or higher education.The constituency went to polls on April 23 as part of the 1st phase. Alipurduar district recorded 93.2% voter turnout.
