In West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, Dr Pranath Tudu of Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a Clear victory In Binpur (Assembly 237), the Trinamool Congress defeated Birbaha Hansda by a margin of 22,977 votes.Tudu got 1,07,238 votes after 22 rounds of counting, while Hansda got 84,261 votes.Binpur (ST), Assembly Constituency No. 237, is situated within the Jhargram Sub-division of West Medinipur District in the Deep Jungle Mahal region of South Bengal, bordered by Jharkhand to the west and Odisha to the south. The constituency encompasses Binpur I and II Community Development Blocks covering dense forest, hilly areas with sal forests, Subarnarekha river basin and scattered tribal settlements. The population of about 216,000 voters is predominantly Santal, Munda, Ho and other Scheduled Tribe communities with a subsistence agriculture and forest-based economy.Key constituency concerns include land rights under the Forest Rights Act, implementation of MGNREGA, access to drinking water, tribal-specific welfare schemes, road connectivity in remote forest areas and redressal of grievances related to displacement since the Jangalmahal conflict. A classic Jangalmahal-sensitive centre: once Maoist-troubled, now stable under the TMC. High-vote (85.6 percent) deep two-way TMC-BJP-Left rivalry. In 2021, TMC’s Debnath Hansda won by 39,494 votes (a margin of ~21.3 percent out of a total of 185,493 votes) – an overwhelming margin.Binpur is a safe TMC seat by a large margin and TMC’s most decisive win in the Jangalmahal belt; Jhargram serves as a barometer of tribal consolidation under the TMC in the Lok Sabha.
