J&K: Baramulla-Uri NH near Lagama closed due to heavy landslide; The vehicle has been moved

New Delhi: The Baramulla-Uri stretch of the National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir was closed due to a heavy landslide near Lagama on Sunday, disrupting traffic on the main route.The landslide blocked the road, prompting authorities to divert traffic to Uri via the Bandi-Paranpilan-Dachi route to maintain connectivity during clearance operations, news agency ANI reported.Officials have deployed teams with heavy machinery to clear debris and restore traffic at high speed. Visuals from the site show workers clearing rocks from the affected stretch. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.In a separate incident on Saturday, the Doda-Kishtwar road in Doda district was also blocked after a major landslide near Gatsu near Pul Doda, affecting traffic on the route.According to the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police, the landslide occurred in the early hours of the morning and completely blocked the road connectivity. “The Doda-Kishtwar road is blocked due to a major landslide at Gatsu near Pul Doda. Men and machinery are in operation; however, it will take some time to clear it. Commuters are advised to avoid travel until the Doda-Kishtwar road is fully restored,” the advisory said.Meanwhile, in another incident in Jammu’s Bantlab area, at least three workers were killed when an under-construction section of a bridge collapsed.Condoling the death, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhury said, “I am deeply saddened by the death of three people in this incident. Four people were trapped, three of them died and one survived safely.” He further said that while the investigation is ongoing, measures have been taken including temporary suspension of two officials, attachment of another and blacklisting of the contractor.
