Supreme Court reserved judgment on Pawan Khera's anticipatory bail

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on Congress leader Pawan Khera’s anticipatory bail in a criminal case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma’s wife for allegedly having multiple passports and undeclared offshore assets.A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar concluded hearing the plea of Khera who challenged the Gauhati High Court’s judgment rejecting his pre-arrest bail plea.Pressing for bail, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the bench that the chief minister was making several objectionable comments against the Congress worker, which showed that he would be arrested even if the case did not require custodial interrogation.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Assam government, opposed the plea and said Khera had shown fake and doctored copies of the passport of the chief minister’s wife. He submitted that Khera was absconding and all allegations against him were false.
