Sunjay Kapur’s assets frozen till ‘doubts settled’ | India News

Delhi High Court said on Thursday, ordering the freezing of his assets worth Rs 30,000 crore till all doubts are cleared. Justice Jyoti Singh said, “The legitimate suspicious circumstances raised by the plaintiffs have to be completely removed by the defendant number one (Priya Kapoor) before accepting the document as a last will and testament.”He said the plaintiffs have made a “prima facie case that the assets should be protected and preserved pending disposal of the case”.Sanjay’s children from his previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor have challenged Priya’s claims citing the will.If the assets are not preserved and Priya ultimately fails to prove the validity of the will, Sanjay and Karisma’s children Samaira and Kian, besides her mother Rani Kapoor, will be deprived of their legitimate share of the estate, the judge said.The interim order freezes the equity shareholding of three Indian companies held by the deceased and prevents the disposal of his personal effects, including artworks.Priya is prohibited from making withdrawals from her late husband’s provident fund or the touch fund in his Indian bank account unless the withdrawals satisfy Sanjay’s obligations related to his divorce from Karisma. The court also barred him from managing foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency assets.The order is not binding on Sanjay’s immovable foreign assets. Priya’s legal team argued that these were beyond the jurisdiction of the High Court.Sanjay died after collapsing during a polo match in England on July 12 last year. He suffered a heart attack after eating a live bee.
