Vantara offers to take 80 Colombian hippos facing death | India News
Columbia authorized the lethal removal of 80 hippos from the Magdalena River Basin, where the animals are classified as invasive species. Authorities say the population, descended from hippos introduced in the 1980s, threatens biodiversity, damages ecosystems and poses a risk to local communities. AAnant Ambani, founder of Vantara in Jamnagar, urged Columbia to stay put and offered to fund and conduct a scientific, humanitarian transfer. Vantara said it will provide veterinary support, capture and transport skills, biosecurity protocols and lifelong care for all 80 hippos.
