MEA condemns Mali terror attacks, calls for regional stability | India News
New Delhi: The External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday issued a statement condemning the “terrorist attacks” in Mali at multiple locations. “India strongly condemns the terrorist attacks at multiple locations in Mali. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and express our solidarity with the government and people of Mali at this difficult time. “We express our sincere condolences over the death of Mali’s Minister of Defense and Minister of Veterans Affairs, General Sadio Kamara, in a terrorist attack,” the MEA said in a press release. “India reiterates its firm commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and supports efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region,” it added.Mali is reeling from its biggest coordinated militant attack in more than a decade, with al-Qaeda-linked groups and Tuareg separatists launching near-simultaneous attacks on key sites, including Bamako airport, the garrison town of Kati and several cities in the north and center. A car bomb attack reportedly killed the defense minister, while rebels claimed control of the strategic northern city of Kidal. The attacks marked a sharp deterioration in security, with rebels stepping up operations despite Russian support for the military government and weakening state control across the country.
