Foreign secy Vikram Misri may hold 1st bilateral meet with Balen govt next month | India News
New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri is likely to visit Nepal next month for his first high-level bilateral visit after the new government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah took office. While Nepali media reported that the visit could take place on May 11-12, official sources said the dates are still being decided. Both sides see the visit as an opportunity to expand cooperation in multiple sectors. According to sources, the visit was proposed when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his counterpart Shishir Khanal on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Summit in Mauritius earlier this month. It was the first high-level contact between the two countries since Shah took office. Egypt is also expected to formally invite Shah for the visit on behalf of Modi. However, diplomatic sources said the two sides would first need to discuss the new government’s focus and priorities before embarking on any ministerial visit. Notably, Nepal’s new government hosted high-ranking officials from the United States and China.
