Aamir Khan said – Could not give time to children: Film ‘Ek Din’ filled the gap, proud of Junaid’s independence, expressed confidence in the story

Aamir Khan is in the headlines these days for his produced film ‘Ek Din’. In this, his sons Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi will be seen in lead roles. While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Aamir shared his emotional connection with the film and his feelings as a father. He admitted that due to his busy career, he could not give much time to his children, but this film gave him an opportunity to work with his son and come closer. Aamir praised Junaid’s independent thinking and passion to create his own identity. He expressed his views on changing cinematic trends, the importance of strong stories and the lack of romantic films. Also shared the experience of working with Arijit Singh. Here are the highlights of the conversation. Question: How special a film is ‘Ek Din’ for you? Answer: This is a special film for me for many reasons. The biggest reason is that Junaid is in it and I got a chance to work with him as a producer. This is not just a film, but also a personal journey for me. Question: How was this experience as a father? Answer: To be honest, I gave more time to work in my life. When the children were growing up, I was not able to give them as much time as I should have. This thing is always there inside me. Question: Did this film give you a chance to fill that gap? Answer: Yes, absolutely. Junaid has always been independent. He never asked for anything from me, neither a car, nor any facility. They want to do everything on their own. In such a situation, I got a chance to do whatever I wanted to do as a father through this film. This is an emotional experience for me. Question: How much did the story influence you? Answer: When I heard the story of the film, it directly touched my heart. I am a romantic person myself and I like such stories. Its simplicity and emotions remind me of ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Question: Do you think Junaid’s character is similar to his? Answer: Yes, to a large extent. Junaid has been of shy and reserved nature since childhood. He did not talk much openly, and I too was like that during my school-college days. Question: Is there similarity in the nature of you and Junaid? Answer: Absolutely. When I decided to start acting, people were surprised as to how this quiet boy would act. Similarly, Junaid is also of calm nature. In this respect we both have similarity. Question: What do you find special in Junaid’s acting? Answer: His biggest quality is that he completely gets into the character he plays. He looks like the same character in ‘Maharaj’. His different shade is seen in ‘Lavyapa’. He acts with honesty and truth, which is a big thing. Question: Nowadays is the era of action films, are you afraid of a soft film like ‘Ek Din’? Answer: Yes, there is fear. When ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ was being released, it was still the era of action films. Even at that time it was felt whether people would like our soft film or not. Even today, 35 years later, the fear is still there. Question: Still, what gives you confidence? Answer: I believe that technology and trends may change, but the power of story does not change. If the story is told truthfully, it will definitely reach the audience. Question: Do you think the audience is missing this kind of love story? Answer: Yes, I think such an innocent, true love story has not come for a long time. Nowadays, most films have either a bigger scale or more drama. In this situation, this film is different. Question: Do you see any connection between ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and ‘Ek Din’? Answer: There are some interesting similarities. Like the release timing of both the films is very close. ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ was released on 29th April and this film is also releasing at almost the same time on 1st May, after about 38 years. Question: Was the ending of the film changed? Answer: Yes, we were not completely satisfied with the ending that was shot initially. So I reworked the last part and tried to make it better. Question: Did the emotion of the ending change? Answer: No, the emotion has been kept the same. The treatment has been changed just to make it more effective. Question: How was the experience of working with Arijit Singh? Answer: It was wonderful. He had earlier said yes to our song, but later announced his decision to leave the song on social media. At that time we were nervous. Question: What happened then? Answer: I called him and asked whether we should come or not. He lovingly said that he would definitely sing our song. Working with him was like home. Question: How was your chemistry with Arijit? Answer: Very good. He is a brilliant and gifted artist. He is also a simple and good person. The connection made with them will last forever. Question: What is your thinking behind giving opportunities to new talent? Answer: I think if someone has passion and hard work, he should get a chance. The industry needs new people. Question: What did you find special in director Sunil Pandey? Answer: He is hardworking and passionate. He keeps an eye on every small and big detail and is completely immersed in his work. Question: Did he live up to your expectations? Answer: Yes, absolutely. Whatever we had thought on paper, he has portrayed it well on the screen. The entire team is happy with the film. Question: Do you consider yourself a pushy? Answer: Yes, I am strict about my work. But when you work with people who are equally dedicated, the work becomes easier and more fun. Question: Why are you so choosy about films? Answer: I have always been like this. I choose films wisely. Have heard many stories in the last few months. Question: Will we be able to see you on screen again soon? Answer: Yes, absolutely. Very soon I will announce my next film. Just wait for one or two more months.
