‘Only revealed Sangh’s true nature’: Rahul Gandhi targets RSS after Ram Madhav’s Russia-Iran oil remarks in US | India News
New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi trained guns on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Saturday after senior BJP leader Ram Madhav made controversial comments on India’s oil imports. In a social media post on X, Rahul called the RSS a “State Surrender Sangh” and said Ram Madhav had exposed the “true nature of the Sangh”.“State Surrender Association. Fake nationalism in Nagpur. Pure service in USA,” the Congress leader said.“Ram Madhav has only revealed the true nature of the Sangha,” he added. This comes after Ram Madhav found himself in trouble after claiming he aligned himself closely with US interests by cutting off oil purchases from Iran and Russia, though these efforts were denied by the Trump administration.During a discussion that included former diplomat Elizabeth Threlkeld and former US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, Madhav said, “We have agreed to a 50 percent tariff. Agree means, we didn’t say anything. We kept our patience. 50 percent duty we agree. Today, we also agreed to 18 percent higher tariffs than before in the new trade deal. Means, the average tariff.”“So, where is India lagging behind. What are the issues where India is not doing enough?” Madhav can be heard saying in the video during an interactive session at the Hudson Institute. The Congress pounced on Madhav’s comments and said that Narendra Modi has lost his authority to continue as Prime Minister. In a post on X, KC Venugopal said, “A candid admission by a senior RSS leader – PM Modi is dancing to Washington’s tune.”“There was a time when the US 7th Fleet was in the Bay of Bengal, and India didn’t budge. And then there is today, where an uncompromising prime minister has handed over India’s sovereignty to the US,” he added. The Congress leader said that this is exactly what Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and the entire opposition have been saying. “India has lost its independent voice on the world stage.“After this surrender, it is clear that Narendra Modi has lost his authority to continue as Prime Minister,” Venugopal said in his post.Madhav, however, later apologized saying what he said was wrong “as India has not agreed to stop importing oil from Russia.” What I said was wrong. India has not agreed to stop importing oil from Russia.”“Also it strongly protested the imposition of 50 percent duty. I was trying to make a limited counterpoint to the other panelist. But factually wrong. My apologies,” Madhav said in a post on X while sharing his video.Madhav and RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale are on a visit to the US and attended an event at the Hudson Institute in Washington.
