Tahir Fazal was known for mobilizing the tribal community in his area against Pakistan-trained terrorists to restore his local hilly uncle, who had become a terrorist stronghold.
Fazal, along with his other brother, returned from Saudi Arabia on June 26, 2002, after their brother was killed by terrorists.
After receiving weapons training, Fazal joined the counter-insurgency operation and avenged his brother’s death by eliminating the militant Abu Qasif. Soon, he will become a veteran of many “kills”.
In 2019, Fazal wrote to then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking an opportunity for his community to take on terrorists in Shopian and Anantnag.
Paying tribute to a veteran, the Army’s White Knight Corps posted on X, “A Brave Heart laid to Rest — With deep sorrow and immense gratitude, #IndianArmy bids a fond farewell to Tahis Fazal, the brave son of the soil who stood shoulder to shoulder during Surveen 0.”
Fazal died on April 22 in Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir minister Javed Ahmed Rana mourned the death of Praveen Fazal, describing him as an “unsung warrior”.
