'Ignorant, inappropriate': India slams Donald Trump for 'hell hole' comments
US President Donald Trump

New Delhi: India on Thursday strongly expressed its objections to the US President Donald TrumpIts “hell-hole” comments, calling it “ignorant, inappropriate and in bad taste”. The comments came after Trump re-shared anti-immigration posts targeting India and China.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have looked at the comments, as well as the subsequent statement issued in response by the US Embassy. The comments are clearly ill-informed, inappropriate and in bad taste. They certainly do not reflect the reality of India-US relations, which have long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.”The response came after Trump re-shared a post on Truth Social referring to India as a “hell-hole”. Following this, an earlier comment in which he described India as a “great country”, was highlighted by the US Embassy spokesperson in New Delhi, in what appeared to be a damage-control attempt. The MAGA supremo, known for his emotional comments, escalated the anti-immigration rhetoric with reposts targeting India and China in derogatory terms.Trump repeatedly referred to the prime minister Narendra Modi As a “great friend” including a recent 40-minute phone call between the two leaders amid the Iran war.“I had a very good conversation with him and he’s a friend of mine from India and he’s doing great. We had a very good conversation,” Trump said in response to a question from news agency ANI.
