TMC will get ‘maha-punishment’ from mothers and sisters: PM Modi | India News
KOLKATA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sharpened his attack on the Trinamool Congress, announcing at rallies across Bengal that “mothers and sisters” will call for “maha-punishment” to block the women’s reservation bill and “maha-punishment” for calling voters “maha-jangalraj”, reports Rohit Khanna. Addressing four rallies in six hours – in Bankura’s Barjora, Purulia, Jhargram and Medinipur – ahead of the April 23 assembly elections, Modi accused the TMC and Congress of “conspiracy” against women. “Women’s welfare is Modi’s guarantee,” he said, accusing the TMC of being “anti-ma (anti-mother)”.Trinamool cheated the women of Bengal, who wanted to implement 33% reservation from 2029. Modi tried to implement it. Women will speak up for their rights when they join legislatures in greater numbers. The TMC feels that village and district women legislators will be held accountable for their misdeeds,” the prime minister said, adding the party was “aligned with the Congress” to block the amendment. A short break during the campaign at a Jhalmuri shop in Jhargram drew attention online as the BJP pushed for last-mile voter connectivity. Modi outlined welfare promises, saying pregnant women would get Rs 21,000 and Rs 5,000 after delivery, cervical cancer vaccination would be free and medicines would be available at steep discounts through public health outlets. Also Read | ‘Do you eat onions?’ PM Modi takes ‘Jhalmuri break’ during Bengal election campaign – Watch He also talked about Rs 36,000 per annum assistance for women, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh and dialysis in government hospitals. Modi has accused the Trinamool of seeking reservation based on religion. “Muslims are being brought under reservation for other backward classes. It is against the constitution,” he said. He also warned of “infiltration”, saying Bengal was in danger of losing its identity. “Trinamool’s agenda is dangerous. It wants to establish a government of the infiltrators, which will protect the religion and language of the infiltrators,” he said. Targeting the party in tribal campaigns, he alleged that it was “following the strategy employed by Nehru to defeat Babasaheb Ambedkar”. The Prime Minister said: “BJP has nominated the country’s first tribal woman President. Trinamool has fielded a candidate against him. They have played a game to prevent an indigenous woman from becoming president.” He alleged that tribal districts were under Trinamool and land was being grabbed by “syndicates”.
