Bill defeat win for nation: Priyanka Gandhi

Congress: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Saturday said the Modi government must implement the provision of women’s reservation in the existing 543-seat Lok Sabha as mandated by the 2023 Act, stressing that the BJP cannot be trusted with the reshuffle of parliament in light of the restrictions imposed by the Modi government in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the opposition’s support for the quota in the current parliament and said the government could call a parliamentary session to make some minor changes in the law. The opposition plans to write to Prime Minister Modi seeking immediate implementation of the 2023 Act. Addressing a press briefing, he said, “They (the government) will keep three members in the Boundary Commission. Like other commissions, they will capitulate it. How did they do it in J&K and Assam? They saved themselves (Assam) by breaking constituencies of opposition politicians.” Odd constituencies were designed in Jammu and Kashmir. Who can believe them?” The Wayanad Lok Sabha MP said that the defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill was a victory for the country, the constitution, democracy and opposition unity. “We have seen the faces of big BJP leaders in Parliament. It was clear from their expressions that it was a shock for them, as they were defeated for the first time in 12 years. We fight harder and stand together, and we hope to be able to push a lot more than what we do,” he said. Priyanka said the move to increase the size of the Lok Sabha to 850 meant that men were trying to save their seats from being allocated to women’s quota. “We are living in a patriarchy.
