'Confusion' between DMK and Congress: BJP targets Bharat Bloc in absence of Rahul, Sonia; DMK attacked for 'family rule'

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu BJP president Naynar Nagendran said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Coimbatore to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party candidates ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, alleging “confusion” between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Indian National Congress in the state.Speaking to reporters at Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district, Nagendran claimed that senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have not actively campaigned or openly supported Chief Minister MK Stalin despite increasing campaign momentum.“There is confusion between DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Sonia Gandhi has come to congratulate or promote the Chief Minister so far. I don’t know if they have such an understanding,” he said.Nagendran also said that Modi will campaign in Coimbatore in support of BJP candidates as the party ramps up preparations for the assembly polls. The BJP leader alleged that several welfare measures implemented in Tamil Nadu were funded by the Center but projected as state government initiatives.“The central government supplies all the products to the fair price shops. But the state government says we will supply them. Similarly, they say that houses are being built through the central government, but the state government does the same,” he added.Nagendran defended the women’s reservation initiative and accused the state government of opposing policies introduced by the Centre.“They feel that bringing 33 per cent reservation bill for women will be anti-democracy and will divide the country. Since 1996, there has been a position that women should be given reservation. The state government opposes any plan that the central government comes up with,” he said.“The provision of 33 per cent reservation for women is a welcome issue. Those who block it will only gain opposition from women,” he said.Increasing criticism of the DMK leadership, Nagendran accused the ruling party of promoting dynastic politics and claimed that Stalin was positioning Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin for future leadership.“Chief Minister Stalin’s plan is to bring Udayanidhi Stalin as the next Chief Minister. Udayanidhi Stalin, who said that he will not enter politics for the 2020-2021 term, is currently contesting the election. Udayanidhi has now been made the Deputy Chief Minister. Currently, there is a family rule and the entire income of Tamil Nadu is currently going to Tamil Nadu,” said Tamil Nadu’s single people. saidNagendran also supported the proposed increase in Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha seats from 39 to 59, saying that greater representation would help improve public service delivery.“Even after 75 years of independence, there has been no change in Parliament. A change is needed now, especially in Tamil Nadu,” he said.He added that the defeat of the bill in Parliament would have nothing to do with state elections.Responding to a question about actor-politician Joseph Vijay and his comments on the election contest, Nagendran called the statement “very unfortunate”.
