Shivraj Singh Chouhan appointed observer, BJP begins process of forming Bihar government

NEW DELHI: Nitish Kumar on Sunday began the process of taking charge of the first BJP-led government in Bihar as a Union minister, suggesting he resign as Bihar chief minister on April 14 after presiding over his last cabinet meeting. Shivraj Singh Chauhan The Bihar Legislature was named as the party’s central observer for the election of party leaders. There are indications that Samrat Chowdhury is the front runner for the post of the next Chief Minister. Chauhan said he will be in Patna on April 14 as BJP lawmakers elect their leader, who will be chosen as the leader of the NDA legislature party to succeed Nitish. Sources said the swearing-in ceremony, likely on April 15, could be a simple affair involving some members. Nitish’s son Nishant is seen as the JDU’s choice for the deputy CM post as the party seeks to preserve its founder’s political legacy and boost its workers. With the BJP known to keep its cards close to its chest, NDA circles are confused about Nitish’s choice of replacement. Still, Samrat is seen as a pioneer thanks to the investment his team has made in him since he joined in 2018.
