Drug-free Jammu and Kashmir: LG Pak launches drive to stop supply, swift punishment for traders

JAMMU: JAMMU: Jammu Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched the “Drug Free Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan”, a 100-day campaign to rid UT of the menace of drugs by stopping the supply of banned goods from Pakistan and ensuring exemplary punishment to drug traffickers.“The administration is committed to effectively tackle this social evil and protect the youth across UT,” Sinha said before starting the march from Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.“Our neighbor (Pakistan) is using cross-border smuggling to poison our communities and undermine the future of our nation. Every official has an obligation: it must be stopped. The full force of the law is now directed at the smugglers. Their network will be dismantled without delay,” he said.“Under a new SOP, passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar numbers and arms licenses of drug traffickers will be cancelled. Their assets will be attached and their bank accounts will be frozen. Surveillance circulars will be issued against drug dealers. Punishment will be swift. The crackdown will reverberate through generations,” the LG said. The next three months are crucial, Sinha said, with the campaign progressing through six distinct phases: intensive awareness campaigns, youth-focused events, community participation, strict enforcement, rehabilitation and evaluation.
