Tamil Nadu Elections: Annamalai slams DMK over governance, corruption

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Saturday said that during his campaign across the state people have raised important concerns like curbing drug abuse, improving the quality of government schools and improving road infrastructure, alleging that the ruling DMK These issues have failed to resolve.In what he referred to as the “DMK file”, Annamalai said he had submitted the complaint to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), adding that officials had visited the BJP office to investigate, as quoted by ANI. He also alleged a Rs 160 crore corruption scam involving a minister, claiming that he had submitted supporting evidence. According to Annamalai, a Deputy Superintendent of Police from DVAC visited the party office to investigate, but no action has been taken so far.He said he was sure that if the government changed, strict measures would be taken, including investigation and accountability.Regarding the leak of the film Jananayagan, Annamalai termed the incident as unfortunate and strongly condemned it, saying that the film represents the hard work of many people. He demanded strict action against those responsible and said he would support a CBI probe if necessary, adding that he would watch the film as a fan after its release.Annamalai also claimed that DMK’s defeat in the 2026 assembly elections could lead to political changes within the party, suggesting that Kanimozhi could form a separate party while Chief Minister MK Stalin could take a different political path.He also alleged that Senthil Balaji would act based on political opportunism, adding that an NDA victory would ensure that the DMK would not return to power. Annamalai also said that Senthil Balaji will face a historic defeat in the south center of Coimbatore.All 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu will go to polls in a single phase on April 23. The election is expected to be contested between the DMK-led secular progressive alliance, the AIADMK-led NDA with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and actor Vijay’s TVK, making his electoral debut.Counting of votes is scheduled on May 4.
