New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Focusing on issues of infiltration, citizenship and alleged corruption in West Bengal on Saturday, the BJP’s campaign in poll-focused West Bengal sharpened its momentum. Trinamool Congress (TMC) Govt.Addressing a public meeting in Katwa in East Burdwan district, Prime Minister Modi promised to speed up the process of granting citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) to eligible refugee families if the BJP comes to power in the state.In total, PM Modi addressed three rallies in the constituency. He held election rallies in Katwa, Jangipur and Murshidabad. At a separate rally in Jangipur, PM Modi said: “From Sandeshkhali to RG tax, this (TMC) ruthless government stands to protect thugs. Bengal will not forget it. The age of fear will end.”He particularly reached out to the Matua and Namasudra communities, who form an important electoral base in several districts of South Bengal.“I want to tell the Matua and Namashudra refugee families that they are under the protection of the country’s constitution. Modi enacted the CAA so that Matuas, Namasudras and all refugees get citizenship,” the Prime Minister said.He also added that a BJP government would expedite the citizenship process for all eligible applicants under the CAA.“Once the BJP government is formed, the process of granting citizenship under CAA to all eligible applicants will be expedited,” he said.Stepping up his attack on alleged illegal immigration, PM Modi said ‘infiltrators’ would have to leave the state if the BJP came to power.“The intruders should start packing their bags; it’s time to leave. Those who helped the infiltrators will not be spared,” he said.The prime minister also launched a scathing attack on the ruling TMC, alleging that their 15-year rule had created an atmosphere of fear in the state.“TMC’s 15-year rule has given nothing but fear to every citizen, every family in Bengal,” he said.He also said that the aim of the upcoming elections was to remove that atmosphere and bring a “fear-free Bengal”.“This election is to dispel the fear of TMC. Such a change will be the first step to build a better Bengal.”Prime Minister Modi has also intensified his allegations against the TMC over corruption, promising tough action if the BJP comes to power.He said a BJP government would release a “white paper” detailing the alleged corruption under the current government and ensure accountability.“BJP will bring a white paper to ensure legal account of corruption involving MLAs, ministers and syndicates of TMC,” he said.During the public meeting, PM Modi also shared a video clip of him demanding a strong public vote. He said that even before the start of his program, there was a huge crowd at the helipad.He also accused the TMC of spreading misinformation about the BJP’s plans and said his party would not stop welfare benefits but remove corruption and middlemen from their implementation.“BJP will stop at nothing. BJP will only close shop of corruption,” he said.In an effort to reach out to women voters, PM Modi has announced a monthly financial assistance scheme.“BJP has announced Rs 3,000 per month for women,” he said, adding that the party is committed to strengthening welfare delivery.He claimed growing popular support for the BJP in West Bengal, saying high voter participation and enthusiasm, especially among women, indicated a strong mandate for the party.The rallies come ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29, to be counted on May 4.At a separate rally in Murshidabad, PM Modi said his party was working to implement the UCC in West Bengal.“The security of the nation is paramount for us. The BJP is determined to implement the UCC (Uniform Civil Code) in Bengal and end the politics of appeasement once and for all,” he said. The TMC returned to power with a strong majority in the 2021 elections, while the BJP emerged as the main opposition with 77 seats.
