TMC, BJP supporters clash during campaign in West Bengal’s Hooghly; FIR lodged | India News
New Delhi: Trinamool Congress supporters and Bharatiya Janata Party Clashes broke out during election campaigning in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Friday, news agency ANI reported.Pursura Assembly Constituency BJP candidate Biman Ghosh alleged that four party workers sustained minor injuries in the incident. He further said that an FIR is being lodged at the local police station.Speaking to ANI, Ghosh accused TMC workers of disrupting the campaign and warned of a strong election result for the BJP. He said, “They (TMC members) were creating a ruckus during the election campaign; they too need to understand what awaits them after the 4th, when the BJP ‘tsunami’ sweeps across Bengal. It would be better for them to mend their ways before it is too late.” Four of our workers sustained minor injuries and we are filing an FIR with the police station”.The incident comes at a time when campaigning has intensified ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, with both parties trading sharp political attacks.Earlier on Friday, the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP engaged in a war of words over the BJP’s recently released Bengal Sankalp Patra. The document, themed “Sonar Bangla” (Sonar Bangla), outlines a proposed change in governance with a focus on national security, youth employment and protection of women.The Union Home Minister is launching the manifesto in Kolkata Amit Shah described it as a roadmap to transform governance in the state and aligned it with the broader vision of a “Bhikshit India”.Shah has also criticized the Trinamool Congress government, alleging that its 15-year rule has led to a breakdown in law and order and widespread public discontent. He said the manifesto was aimed at “bringing every section of Bengal out of despair” and providing “a new path for the fear-ridden peasantry”.He also claimed that the people of the state were “terrified and disillusioned” and wanted change, reiterating that the BJP’s governance model was consistent with its vision of national development.Polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting on May 4.
