KMVN gas manager dies, colleagues cite ‘work pressure’ | India News
Pithoragarh: A 55-year-old manager of the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) gas agency in Champawat district died on Sunday evening after returning from work. His colleagues at the Gas Agency claimed that he had ingested a toxic substance because he could not cope with the workload due to the country’s prevailing situation due to the conflict in West Asia. However, the family members denied the matter and said that the cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report. On Monday, some KMVN workers went on strike and did not distribute cooking gas to several places in Kumaon. Colleagues claimed that victim Dayal Singh Rawat recently told his friend that he was “physically and mentally broken due to overwork and he was facing heat from consumers and administration alike.”SP Rekha Yadav said her death will be investigated. “Rawat’s family members have not said anything about consuming poison,” Yadav said. Rawat’s brother-in-law Rajendra Singh Bora told TOI on Sunday that he looked normal when he came home from work. “He called me around 6.30 pm on Sunday, informing me that he was going to the hospital to see his uncle, who underwent gallbladder surgery, and was discharged. The two returned an hour later. Rawat soon complained of discomfort and asked his family to take him to the hospital, where he died,” said Bora.Champawat police in-charge BS Bisht said, “The district hospital informed us about Rawat’s death. The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem, whose report is awaited.”KMVN Pithoragarh gas manager Usha Rana said Rawat’s death was not due to work pressure, though he admitted that gas distribution workers are under pressure due to the prevailing situation.
