New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi On Monday, he promised that Puducherry would be given full statehood if his party comes to power. “We are committed to give full statehood to Puducherry,” he said while addressing an election rally in Lospet.Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the current Union Territory government does not reflect the will of the people but has been imposed from Delhi. He accused the BJP of sidelining regional leaders and running UT by remote control.“Everyone knows that 30% commission is charged on all contracts. The government here has become a collecting agent. The government in Puducherry is not an expression of the people, but imposed from Delhi; the BJP is running the state by ‘remote control’,” he said.Highlighting the Congress’ promise for UT, he added, “What is the Congress coalition government going to do for Puducherry? We are going to give monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to unemployed youth, create 30,000 new jobs in public and private sectors, and women will travel free in buses in Puducherry. We are going to relax every family in a single job till the age of 4. In Puducherry they will get Rs 20 lakh health insurance.”Rahul Gandhi urged voters to support the Congress and its coalition candidates, promising a government that truly represents the voice of the local people.Addressing the public, he said, whenever I come, wherever I go, you show me great affection.Puducherry Assembly elections will be held for 30 seats, with single-phase polling on April 9 and counting of votes on May 4.
