New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Assam Chief Minister on Sunday Himanta Biswa SharmaCalled him the ‘most corrupt and hate-mongering Chief Minister’. He alleged that ‘Babbar Sher’ of his party would put him in jail.Addressing an election rally in Vishwanath, Assam, Rahul Gandhi said: “Assam has India’s most corrupt, hate-mongering Chief Minister. He knows the ‘Babar Shers’. Congress party I will put him in jail.”

He also outlined the key promises made by Congress for the state, focusing on welfare measures and community recognition. Rahul Gandhi said the party would grant Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe status to six communities in Assam and improve the wages of tea workers.“We are clearly saying that we will give SC/ST status to 6 communities in Assam. We have clearly mentioned in the manifesto that we will give Rs 450 per day to tea workers,” he said.Highlighting economic and social assistance initiatives, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress government would launch multiple schemes within a short period of time if voted to power.“With the formation of the government in Assam, we will implement the six decisions taken for Assam. Every woman will get a monthly cash transfer to her bank account without any conditions, and those who want to start a business will be given Rs 50,000. We guarantee that within 100 days, we will punish the accused in the Zubin Garg case and action will be taken.”Targeting the central leadership, Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the governance of Assam is being controlled from New Delhi.“Donald Trump controls Narendra Modi, and Narendra Modi and Amit Shah control your Chief Minister. Assam is administered from Delhi.”He intensified his attacks on Sarma, implicating his family in corruption allegations and warning of strict action.“He (CM Himanta Biswa Sharma) made a mistake by implicating his family in corruption, now even his family will be accused.”The Congress leader also invited renowned Assamese singer Zubin Garg, drawing a contrast between the party’s ideology and what he described as the BJP’s divisive politics. He said that the party is for unity and harmony.“Zubin Garg worked all his life to unite the people of Assam, he never misbehaved with anyone. That is the philosophy of Congress, to spread love against hate,” he said.He added that despite the apology, legal action would be taken against the chief minister. “Let him speak for a few more days. After that, Congress will form the government in Assam and even if he apologizes, legal action will be taken,” the Congress leader said.Assam state assembly elections are scheduled on April 9, the results will be declared on May 4.
