New Delhi: The Election Commission The West Bengal Chief Secretary on Saturday ordered the dismissal of four Kolkata police officers for “failing” to maintain law and order during the submission of BJP leader Subvendu Adhikari’s nomination to the Bhavanipur seat for the upcoming assembly elections.In a notification to the West Bengal Chief Secretary, the Election Panel said the directive was made on the recommendation of State Election Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal.“The commission agreed to the proposal and directed that the said police officers be suspended and disciplinary action be taken against them forthwith,” the notification said.The missive also ordered action against Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner (DC-2), South Division Siddharth Dutt; Officer-in-charge of Alipur Police Station Priyankar Chakraborty; Additional OC Chandicharan Banerjee; and Sergeant Sourav Chatterjee.Further, the EC has asked the state authorities to ensure implementation of its directives without delay and submit a compliance report by 11 am on Monday.The poll panel also sought an urgent proposal from the state government to fill up vacant posts including officer-in-charge posts in DC-II, South Division and Alipur Police Station.This comes after TMC workers waved the party flag during BJP’s road show ahead of Adhikari’s nomination filing on Thursday. Union Minister Amit Shah also accompanied Adhikari on April 2 to file nomination papers for the South Kolkata seat, where the leader of the opposition in the outgoing assembly is contesting against the incumbent chief minister. Mamata Banerjee.As the convoy reached Kalighat, just a few hundred meters from Banerjee’s residence, Trinamool Congress workers and supporters waved green and white party flags along the road and chanted slogans of ‘Jai Bangla’ and ‘Mamata Banerjee Zindabad’.However, the situation turned tense when the BJP roadshow and TMC protest clashed near Kalighat.For several minutes, supporters of the two rival camps stood just meters apart and shouted slogans at each other.A thick cordon of police personnel formed a human wall between the two groups to avoid a clash, with officers pushing rival supporters back on either side of the road.

The face-to-face clash brought traffic to a standstill and heightened tension in the area before the BJP convoy proceeded.
