Rajpal became emotional during the hearing in the check bounce case: Said- send him to jail five more times, the court refused to give additional time.
Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to give additional time to actor Rajpal Yadav to repay the outstanding amount in the check bounce case. Rajpal, who appeared through video conference during the hearing, became emotional. According to a Bar & Bench report, the court rejected the demand for 30 days’ time to repay Rs 6 crore, saying, “No, no. The decision is being reserved and no time will be given.” During the hearing, the court said that if there is a desire to make payment then why is there a delay. The court said, “You are saying that you want to pay, but your lawyer is saying that you have gone to jail, so you will not pay. If you want to pay, then why is the case being heard. Make the payment.” The complaining party said – 7.75 crores are still pending. During the hearing in the case, the complaining party said in the court that completing the sentence does not end the financial liability. Advocate Avneet Singh Sikka argued that Rajpal Yadav has admitted to not making payment of Rs 10 crore. He said that action was initiated only after payment was not made. A total of Rs 7.75 crore is still outstanding, while around Rs 2 crore was deposited before the trial court. During the hearing, the court also explored the possibility of one-time settlement. The court indicated that if Rs 6 crore is given in a short time, the dispute can be resolved, on which the complainant also agreed. Rajpal Yadav said, “They have taken Rs 17 crore from me. Five of my flats have had to be sold. I am ready to go to court again. I am not emotional, send me to jail five more times.” However, when he asked for 30 days time to raise the amount, the court refused. As no agreement was reached, the High Court reserved its decision in the matter. What is the whole matter? In the year 2010, Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from private company Murali Projects Private Limited to make the film Ata Pata Lapata. This film was a flop and Rajpal Yadav had to face financial crisis. Rajpal Yadav could not return the loan amount on time. The checks given by Rajpal Yadav to the company while taking the loan bounced, after which a complaint was lodged against the actor. Despite the agreement between the two parties, the full payment was not made and with time interest kept getting added, due to which the total debt increased significantly. In 2018, Karkardooma Court of Delhi convicted Rajpal Yadav and sentenced him to six months in jail. After this he appealed in the High Court, where he got relief several times, because he had given assurance of payment and settlement. However, in early February 2026, the Delhi High Court had refused to extend the concessions and deadlines given earlier to the actor. The court had ordered him to surrender by February 4, after which he surrendered on February 5 at around 4 pm. After this, after spending about 12 days in jail, he came out on interim bail on 16 February on the condition of depositing Rs 1.5 crore.
