NOIDA: Delhi-NCR’s second international airport will be inaugurated on Saturday, adding Jewar to the country’s aviation map and creating both space and means for the national capital – already India’s largest aviation hub – to play a bigger role in connectivity to the world. A day before the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi on Friday said that the Noida International Airport will not only strengthen trade and connectivity, but also ease the pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport.“Tomorrow, March 28, is a very important day for the people of Uttar Pradesh and NCR,” Modi wrote on X. “The first phase of Noida International Airport will be inaugurated… Noida Airport is one of the major greenfield projects of our country. Apart from passenger services, it will have a robust cargo ecosystem, thus linking the sector to the photography sector,” he added.

Flight operations are likely to start only in May

Flight operations from NIA may begin in May.The Prime Minister will arrive at the airport at 11.30 am on Saturday, take a walkthrough of the terminal building and formally inaugurate the airport around noon before addressing a public gathering. The event is expected to attract huge crowds from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh. Three pandals have been built to accommodate more than one lakh people.NIA will add 1.2 crore annual flyer capacity to Delhi-NC’s airport infrastructure, allowing carriers more room for expansion and giving flyers more options.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who will accompany the Prime Minister on Saturday, posted on X that the NIA will help the state emerge as a global connectivity hub. “This airport will open new doors of economic progress and give new impetus to the journey of development and prosperity of the state,” he said. Last week, the Chief Minister reviewed the preparations for the inauguration of the airport.
