New Delhi: A professor at a medical college on the outskirts of Bengaluru has been booked for sexual harassment after he re-entered the campus despite being barred and propositioned a female student in a classroom, an incident that later escalated into a violent clash.Police said the episode took place on March 23 at a private medical college in Nelamangala taluk and came to light after videos of the proposal went viral on social media. In one of the clips, the assistant professor is seen addressing a class and claiming that a student has confessed her “feelings” to him. He then proposes to her in front of his classmates and distributes the chocolates. The student immediately objected, questioning when he had expressed such feelings and asking him to take the matter to the principal. The professor insists she told him “I love you” and claims there is CCTV evidence, prompting him to demand she show it. He then leaves the classroom saying that he will talk to her the next day.According to the FIR, the professor had already faced allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment from students. The college launched an investigation and barred him from campus pending the outcome.Despite this ban, he allegedly entered the premises on March 23 in violation of the order. The complaint states that he “forcibly” held the student’s hand and behaved in an obscene and inappropriate manner, causing disturbance among students and disrupting the academic environment.Tensions rose immediately after the classroom exchange. The video shows the student confronting the professor again, hitting him with a slipper, while other students join in, allegedly abusing and assaulting him.Based on the college principal’s complaint, the police registered a case against the professor under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code for assault, sexual harassment and criminal trespass. Authorities said further investigations are underway.
