Rain in several parts of Delhi-NCR; Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely this week, IMD says

NEW DELHI: Rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, bringing a noticeable change in weather conditions with a drop in temperature. Visuals of Indira Bhavan show incessant rain under a cloudy sky, while scenes of Moolchand Metro station show commuters moving through light to moderate rain. In Palam area, rain and gusty winds were also reported, indicating widespread weather activity across Delhi.According to news agency PTI, high-speed winds sweeping through Delhi caused power outages and disruptions in various parts of the capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid vulnerable structures. People were warned to stay away from windows, electrical poles and overhead power lines to avoid accidents, as well as secure loose objects.Farmers were advised to temporarily stop outside work and move livestock to safer areas, while motorists caught in the storm were told to pull over safely and stay in their vehicles rather than drive through strong winds and flying debris.According to India Meteorological DepartmentLight rain, thundershowers, thundershowers and gusty winds are likely to continue in the city till March 20. Wind speed will be between 20-30 kmph, gusting to 40-50 kmph especially in the afternoon and evening.The change in weather is attributed to an active western disturbance and cyclonic circulation affecting northwest India, leading to increased thunderstorm activity in the region.Rains have brought down temperatures, with maximum temperatures expected to drop from around 32-34°C to 26-28°C over the next two days, below normal for this time of the year. Minimum temperature may range between 16°C to 20°C.A brief spell of rain provided relief from the onset of summer heat and improved the overall weather of the city.The IMD advised residents to exercise caution and be alert during thunderstorms, avoid waterlogged areas and trees and drive carefully.
