Shivraj: The Congress had no public support for the MGNREGA movement

New Delhi: Rural Development Minister Dr Shivraj Singh Chauhan On Tuesday attacked the Congress for opposing changes in the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. He reminded them that they had failed to organize a movement demanding restoration MGNREGA.“The Congress announced that it would launch a ‘great struggle’ and many dates were announced…, but no ‘struggle’ was visible,” Chouhan said, claiming that the protest failed to gain public support because of awareness that the new law was better.“We saw two ‘Maha Mazdoors’… wearing a ‘gamcha’ on their head, an ax on their shoulder, but wearing jeans…,” Chauhan said while showing the picture. Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.Chauhan took the claim that the VB-GRAMG pattern where states have to contribute 40% of the funds will doom the project as states are “cash strapped”. He said that states have made necessary arrangements.
