Ayushman Bharat crosses 43 crore cards, digital health records grow

New Delhi: India’s flagship health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides an annual cover of ₹5 lakh per family for hospitalization, has so far issued over 43.5 crore health cards, including 1.14 crore for senior citizens aged 70 years and above, the government said on Tuesday. More than 36,000 hospitals are enrolled under the scheme, providing cashless treatment for nearly 2,000 procedures across 27 specialties. Since its launch, more than 11.6 crore hospitalizations have been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 1.73 lakh crore. Meanwhile, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has generated over 86 crore health IDs, of which over 90 crore health records have been digitally linked. More than 2.5 lakh health facilities are now using ABDM-enabled software, indicating rapid progress towards a nationwide digital health ecosystem.
